Wonton Dumplings in Spicy Garlic Chili Oil - Din Tai Fung Inspired

There are many types and variations of dumplings……all kinds of fillings in different shapes of wrappers that are boiled, pan fried, deep fried, steamed and enjoyed with a variety of condiments and sauces.

This recipe was inspired by Din Tai Fung’s (Din Tai Fung is a popular dumpling and noodle restaurant worldwide) spicy dumplings. It can be served as an appetizer or a main dish.

Ingredients (2 Servings)

Note: For a vegetarian/vegan recipe, substitute ground pork for shrimp/tofu. Wontons can be boiled or steamed.

🌶For Chili Oil

-Red Pepper (Red Chili) Flakes 1/4 Cup

-Vegetable Oil 1/2 Cup

-Scallions (Green Onions) 2 Stalks

-Garlic 1 Clove

-Ginger Small Amount

-Salt

-Soy Sauce

-Vinegar

🍜For Wontons

-Wonton Wrappers 1 Package

-Ground Pork 1/2 Pound

-Garlic 1 Clove Minced

-Ginger 2 Teaspoons Minced

-Salt 1 Teaspoon

-Ground Pepper 1/2 Teaspoon

-Soy Sauce 1 Tablespoon

-Corn Starch 2 Teaspoons

🌿For Garnish

-Green Onions (Green Part)

-Cilantro

1, Prepare Chili Oil

Mince garlic, ginger and white part of green onions. Place in a heat proof bowl with chili/red pepper flakes. Heat oil until smoke comes off of it. Carefully pour the oil into the bowl and season with salt. Set aside.

2, Make Wonton Dumplings

Mix ground pork, minced garlic, ginger, salt, ground pepper, soy sauce and cornstarch in a medium sized bowl. Fill wonton wrappers with a tablespoon of the meat mixture and seal by dipping a finger in a small bowl of water and running it along the edges. Watch the video on top to see how to fold.

3, Boil Water

Bring water to boil in a medium sized pot. Drop wontons into the pot and boil for 5 minutes. Wontons will start to float when done. Drain and place in a serving dish.

4, Add Finishing Touches

Add soy sauce and vinegar to the chili oil (add amount to suit your taste). Pour some over boiled wontons and set remaining aside. Sprinkle with green onions and cilantro for garnish.
