Thai Pork & Holy Basil Stir-Fry (Pad Kra Pao Moo) - Authentic Thai Food Recipe

If you asked a Thai person what dish he/she would first want to eat after being away from Thailand..…the likely answer would be Pad Kra Pao, “Thai Holy Basil Stir-Fry”.

It’s one of the most popular and beloved Thai dish of all time. This simple, versatile and delicious dish is available from street food vendors and in restaurants in Thailand. Vegetables such as long beans, shallots, bell peppers, holy basil, garlic and Thai chilies are stir-fried with meats of your choice: pork, chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp etc. It’s almost always topped with a fried egg and served with Thai jasmine rice.

I used to eat it all the time when I lived in Thailand. I love it for its simplicity and the taste; This dish has all the classic Thai flavors! - savory with the aroma and the taste of holy basil. Most of the ingredients can be substituted and it’s easy and quick to prepare at home. Try the recipe and you’ll fall in love with it!

*Can’t find holy basil? Thai sweet basil or Italian basil can be used in this recipe.

How to make it ⬇️

🌶Pad Kra Pao Moo🌶 (“moo” is pork in Thai, can be substituted with other meat)

Ingredients(2 Servings)

-ground/minced pork 1/2 pound

-long beans/green beans 1/2 cup, chopped

-shallot/onion 1/4 cup, diced

-red bell pepper 1/4 cups, cut in strips

-Thai chilies/chili flakes desired amount (optional)

-garlic 2-3 cloves, chopped

-holy basil/ Thai sweet basil/Italian basil 2-3 bunches

-vegetable oil 1 tablespoon

-soy sauce 1/2 tablespoon

-oyster sauce 1 tablespoon

-fish sauce 1/2-1 tablespoon

-sugar 1/2 tablespoon

-eggs 2 fried

-jasmine rice

1, Heat vegetable oil in wok or skillet on medium-high.

2, Take the leaves off the stems of holy basil

3, Stir-fry pork, long beans, shallots, garlic, chilies until the pork is almost cooked.

4, Add bell peppers, holy basil leaves and seasonings (soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar) and cook for 1-2 minutes.

5, Enjoy with a fried egg and jasmine rice!
