Best Destinations 2020 Pt. 3 - Sapa Vietnam
Sapa (in Lao Cai province) is a beautiful town located in the northern mountains bordering Vietnam and China. Its stunning scenery and the cultures of various ethnic minority groups (Hmong, Red Dao, Tay, Giay and Phu La) attract many visitors. This area was originally a Black Hmong settlement until in the early 1900s, when they were forcibly resettled by the French military.
Now easily accessed from Hanoi by the new highway, visitors first started coming to this area after the completion of the railway line from Hanoi to Lao Cai in 1906. Between 1947 and 1952, much of the town was destroyed by Viet Minh and the French; Forcing the civilians to flee. They didn’t return until the early 1960s and began rebuilding the town - It was finally opened to foreign tourists in 1993.
Today Sapa is one of the best destinations in Vietnam.
