Run Hawaii Series 1: Hibiscus Half Marathon, Honolulu, HI

I'm going to be writing about a few of my favorite runs over the years in my upcoming posts.

I'll start off with Hibiscus Half Marathon, 15K, and 5 miler on Sunday, May 29 2016.  The races start and finish at Kapiolani Park in Honolulu, HI.

I ran the half marathon in 2014.  If you've run Honolulu Marathon before, the race course will be familiar; you'll be on Honolulu Marathon course for the most part.  The only difference is the start and finish at Kapiolani Park and the turnaround.  For those new to this area, the course is somewhat scenic.

Starting off at Kapiolani Park by Waikiki Beach and Honolulu Zoo, the course takes you up to Diamond Head and towards Kahala and Hawaii Kai.  Just before the finish line, you'll be rewarded with a stretch of down hill and a beautiful view of the ocean.

The weather in Honolulu in May is very nice.  Average low is 70 and average high is 85.

Hibiscus Race is one of the Tropical Triple Crown Race Series.  Other two races are Mango Days 5K on Sunday, June 26 and Coconut Chase 8K on Sunday July 24.  If you complete all three races, you'll earn a Tropical Triple Crown medal!   You’ll get a nice shirt and a medal from each race.

Register at active.com.  After a race I always reward myself with fresh malasadas from Leonard's Bakery on 933 Kapahulu Ave.
