Love Indian food? You will most likely wait in line for at least 30 minutes to get in this restaurant for dinner. Bollywood Theater is located in the hip neighborhood on Southeast Division Street. If you happen to be in the northeast part of Portland, there is one on Northeast Alberta.
The interior is bright, open and casual. You go in and order your food before getting a table. They’ll bring the food to you. They have a good selection of drinks to start out your evening. From King Fisher to Indian inspired cocktails and wines. Non-alcoholic drinks like Lassi ( sweet yourgurt drink ) and sodas are available too. They are most popular for their small plates and Indian street food. It’s fun to order a lot of the street foods and small plates to share with your friends and family. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, there are many options to choose from and you can always ask to make a dish vegetarian or vegan.
Here are some of my favorite vegetarian / vegan dishes.
Bhel Puri: A refreshing snack of potatoes, vegetables, onion, cilantro, peanuts, spices and puffed rice with green and tamarind chutneys
Aloo Tikki: Pan-fried spiced potato patties served with chickpea chole and green chutney
Gobi Manchurian: Indo-Chinese fried cauliflower with lemon, curry leaves and a sweet and sour sauce
Dal and Coconut Curry: Coconut milk and simmered lentil curry with seasonal vegetables. Served with saffron rice
There are also hearty meat dishes.
Lamb Samosas: Two savory pastries filled with lamb, spiced potatoes, mint, onions, ginger and peas. Served with tomato raisin chutney and green chutney
Chicken Curry: Bone-in thigh and leg with an aromatic and creamy curry. Served with saffron rice
Pork Vindaloo: A Portuguese influenced dish from Goa. Pork braised with red chiles, garlic and vinegar. Served with buttered rolls
