I’ve come to think of Portland, Oregon as my second home. My Daughter lives on Division Street in Southeast Portland. I’ve been coming here to spend time with her every six month for the last three years. With every visit, there are new discoveries. I was there over the holidays and particularly enjoyed the city’s bar scene in Division and nearby Hawthorne district. The neighborhood is considered as ” hip food and bar destination in Southeast Portland “.
The Richmond Bar on 3203 SE Division Street is a cool local spot with daily happy hour and a lots of late night bites like veggie hand pies, sandwiches and mac & cheese. There are food items on the menu only served between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Their cocktail menu stands out with unique names such as Beet Down; a mix of gin, lime and beet juice. Happy hour runs from 4:00-6:00 p.m. every day and all day Sunday.
Victory Bar on 3653 SE Division Street is an another popular local hangout. It was names as one of the best places to have beer in America by Imbibe Magazine and voted by Portland Magazine for one of the city’s best 30 burger restaurants. This is the place to enjoy good whisky and Belgian beer. Their rare and imported beer selection changes almost everyday but you can be sure to choose from selection of 13 drafts and 50 bottles daily. Early happy hour is from 5:00-6:00 p.m. seven days a week and late night happy hour is 10:00-11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Getting away from Southeast Portland to Northeast Portland on 2733 NE Broadway, Hale Pale is our recent favorite. It was named as one of the best bars in America by Playboy Magazine in 2014. A tiki bar with over 50 tropical drinks and fresh island small plates ( pupus ) like taro chips, Hawaiian bread, poki, fried rice and edamame. Inside the exotic island atmosphere, thunderstorms roll by and volcanos erupt while enjoying tropical drinks like Lava Flow and Volcano Bowl; a flaming drink. Happy hour is until 6:00 p.m. daily.
